Parks

Doniphan offers two park that are nestled on about 12 acres. The City Park, located in the heart of Doniphan affords residents a covered picnic shelter, rest rooms, tennis courts and playground equipment for the kids.

Baseball/Softball

The Doniphan Baseball/Softball area is housed on about ten acres. It offers  a lighted baseball and softball field for evening games, a concession stand, restrooms, batting cages, and playground equipment.

Organized recreation programs include baseball, softball, T-ball and flag football. All programs encompas participants from numerous surrounding communities.

Birding

A broad array of birds migrate through and Doniphan area is prime  to view and photograph them. The Sandhill Cranes, Bald Eagles, a wide range of woodpeckers and  Snow Geese as well as Canadian Geese are on display at various times of the year. In addition, the Monarch Butterfly migration takes place in September of each year.

Doniphan Senior Center

The Doniphan Senior Center provides added entertainment and services for area seniors . Services include a balanced noon meal, Meals on Wheelsas well as activities such as bingo, cards, quilting sessions and parties and gatherings. .

Nebraska Trapshooting

Nebraska Trapshooting Association (NTA) has been here in Doniphan since 1948. The Nebraska State Shoot is held here on a yearly basis. Starting in  76, it has been home to the Nationwide Championship Cornhusker Trapshoot, which spans three days and is the largest shoot of its kind in the world. A campground with over 90 hookups is available.

  4. Shoemaker’s State Recreation Area: This nearby state park offers outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking, picnicking, and bird watching. It’s a peaceful spot to enjoy nature.
  5. Fonner Park: Located in Grand Island, Fonner Park is a racetrack and event center. Check their schedule for horse racing events, concerts, and other entertainment.
  6. Island Oasis Water Park: If you’re visiting during the summer months, Island Oasis Water Park in Grand Island is a fun place to cool off. It has water slides, a lazy river, and a wave pool.
  7. Visit Local Farms: The surrounding area is known for its agriculture. You might consider reaching out to local farms to see if they offer tours or farm-to-table experiences.
  8. Antique Shopping: Explore antique shops in nearby towns like Grand Island. You might find unique treasures and collectibles.
  9. Platte River: The Platte River flows through the region, and there are opportunities for fishing, kayaking, and enjoying scenic river views.
